Taking Federated Searching to a New Level

EBSCOhost® Integrated Search™ (EHIS) takes federated searching to a higher level by providing access to all of an institution’s EBSCOhost and other (non-EBSCO) resources in a single, integrated search experience:

  • Non-EBSCO databases & content sources
  • OPACs
  • eJournals
  • eBooks
  • EBSCO databases

The State of Federated Searching

Until now, federated search customers have been disappointed with four main aspects of such services:

  • Limited features & functionality
  • Slow search speeds
  • Weak customer services
  • High costs associated with annual fees & individual connector costs

EHIS offers excellent solutions to the above problems:

A Next Generation Approach to Federation

EBSCOhost Integrated Search (EHIS) allows users to simultaneously search EBSCO databases as well as all other electronic resources, including those from other database aggregators, OPACs, and publisher packages. However, unlike traditional federated search products, true integration is possible with EHIS as libraries can now apply the powerful EBSCOhost search experience to all of their other electronic information resources.

EHIS provides:
  • A complement to EBSCO Discovery Service which extends the discovery experience to external resources that are not made available for local harvesting
  • A next generation approach to federation, which eliminates the frustration caused by slow search results
  • Direct EBSCOhost Integration (View Sample)
  • The ability to utilize EBSCOhost features and functionality for applicable sources retrieved, including:
    • EBSCOhost Basic and Advanced Search
    • Screen functionality
    • Subject facets
    • Publication facets
    • Sorting results by relevancy or date
    • Date Slider limiter
    • “Add to Folders” option
    • Use of Custom Links
  • The industry’s most inclusive list of connectors
  • Integration with EBSCOhost Web Service API
Enhanced Features & Functionality

EBSCOhost features that are available for any database, from any vendor, include:

  • Functions of both Basic and Advanced Searches
  • Subject clustering
  • Publication clustering
  • Sorting results by Relevancy or Date
  • Date Slider limiter
  • Add to Folders option
  • Use of Custom Links
  • And much more…
Rapid Return of Search Results

EHIS provides fast response times, allowing search results to trickle in without delaying the user. Search results are presented in a tiered format—library administrators control which sources go into each “tier” for searching purposes. Results from the top tier are quickly presented, while content from subsequent tiers loads off to the side and can easily be added to the Result List at the discretion of the user. Conversely, most federated search services wait for all results to load before presenting any.

World-Class Customer Service

Through EBSCO’s toll-free Customer Support line (available seven days a week), all customers worldwide will receive knowledgeable and timely responses to their service inquiries. In addition, EBSCO’s comprehensive online support structure ensures 24/7 support anywhere in the world.

Significant Cost Savings

EBSCO will not charge a connector fee for any EBSCOhost databases subscribed to by any institution that are accessed via EHIS. As a result, the number of connectors will be reduced when pricing, thereby providing a cost-effective search solution relative to other options.
